Toads may be the commonest amphibians at Leadburn, found sheltering under grass tussocks and other hollows throughout the year. In 2020 and 2022 huge numbers (thousands) came to breed in all our larger pools in mid April, calling noisily in the water.

Frogs are regular too, living in ditches, spawning from March but can be hard to find. Palmate newts are present too in small numbers. Before 2020 lizards were rarely sighted, but since then have been seen regularly from April to June on the grassier ridges.
